Leaving New Brunswick, Entering Nova Scotia

We enjoyed Grand Falls, but we were really looking forward to our next stop (mainly because it would be our first stay of more than one night!).  On the road early, we were very excited to be heading with much anticipation to Magnetic Hill - one of the stops we had been planning for a long time.

The World's Longest Covered Bridge

On the way to Magnetic Hill, we decided to make a brief detour to Hartland, NB so we could see the world's longest covered bridge!  How could we pass that up? Of course, after leaving Hartland we narrowly escaped detours to see The Largest Axe in Atlantic Canada and New Brunswick's Last Fatal Duel and Resting Place! The list goes on.  Anyway, with no further ado, here is the longest covered bridge in the world...

Just a quick trip across and back over the bridge, then back in the car.

Magnetic Hill

Magnetic Hill is in Moncton, NB.  It is one of only a handful of magnetic hills in the world!  The deal is this - you drive down a hill and come to a stop, put your car in neutral and then you are dragged back up the hill.  Pretty amazing, huh?  Does it work?  Is it a mystery? A hoax?  For $5 we were about to find out!

The proof is in the pudding, as they say...

This first video shows another car going up the hill.

And here we go!

We did the hill a second time after a "guide" explained the optical illusion to us.  It's the only illusion I've experienced that still holds after it has been explained.  It really was pretty cool.

The Zoo

The magnetic hill has been a known in Moncton for a long time.  So, it is not surprising that many other attractions have been built surrounding it.  Most of these either didn't appeal to us or they didn't work for our schedule.  Zola, however, had her eye on the Magnetic Hill Zoo, so to the zoo we went!

Stuart House B&B, Nova Scotia

We made quick work of the zoo (quite nice, actually) and finally crossed the border into Nova Scotia! We are staying at this beautiful bed and breakfast that is part of a family farm.  The farm and land has been in the family for four generations.

Swinging in the orchard

A little tether ball

There is a short walk down a lane to a beautiful beach - the beach is on the Northumberland Strait

Red sand!  Very soft and sandy - not at all muddy like it looks

This is soon after low tide - at high tide, the volley ball net is submerged!

Good Night!
